Revenge of the Cat People
I wanted to post the photos I took of the dresses Alcy sent me for our EGL swap but Geocities won't let me in. : / So, insted, here's a list I've been working on for a while:
After I watched Catnapped! I started looking for fashion dolls that were about 50% cat, 50% person in appearence. Of course, few dolls fit the ideal perfectly but here's what I found:
Catsy by Elfdoll The perfect start to the list! She's 14 cms tall (5 1/2 inches), resin and articulated. The body also looks REALLY nice in the nude owner-taken pictures I've seen.
Nikki by Petworks Doll Cafeteria post here. 20 cm (About 8 inches) tall. The way the sides of her head are shaped reminds makes me think "wolf" for some odd reason O_O; Dollopedia entry here.
Dollfie Friends Baron by Volks Based on the Whispers of the Heart/The Cat Returns character in his manga colors.
Bisque Baron Another Baron doll, this one limited to 200 pieces, 36 cm tall (14 inches) and done in the Anime coloration.
French Kitty by Madame Alexander The webmaster compares French Kitty to Peteena and I can definitely see a resemblance.
Fellini More 70% cat so they are kind of borderline for the list. Apart from the preorder photos at HLJ there isn't really any information on these Takara dolls, other than that their names are "Russian" and "Jessica". The neat thing you can see in the photos though is how they have pads on the bottoms of their paws :D (First saw the link on Blastmilk)
Glamour Kitty Popular Creations doesn't seem to have a website but they are available on Ebay. 13 inches (33 cm) tall, resin and they stand on their own with the aid of a wired tail.
GlamKats They are stuffed but contain wires so they are posible. 24 inches (61 cm) tall.
Catwalk Kitties by Lanard (First saw them on Vinyl Dreams) 11 inches tall, plastic, with a Barbie-style body. The shoes aparently pop-on like Bratz feet and the hair is rooted. Some dolls also have a talking feature.
Nyangi by 42Doll 21.7cm (8.4 inch) tall. Comes with human type hands and animal paws, according to the site.
Baha by Pipos Doll 21cm (8 inches) tall. Baha has a wider mouth than Heero. Nero uses Heero's head mold but in black, and the Sleeping Baha head is a closed eye version of the Heero sculpt.
Ringo by Pipos Dolls 15 cm (6 inches) tall. She's meant to be younger than Baha and co. Availabe in the regular white or a pink furtone.
Coco by Doll Factory 12 cm (4.7 inch) tall. Tail attaches with a magnet.
Custom Jobs
Jim's Catwoman fashion doll I would have loved to see some "making of" pictures. The way he did the ears, with molds and latex rather than adding them with Fimo or Sculpey is interessting. The doll is also flocked :D (Made from a rollerblading Barbie)
DarkSilver's Fox Femme, Skunkette and Cheetah Not cat girls (well, sort of with the Cheetah girl:D) but still anthropomorphic animals. Foxy, Darksilver's first creation, is particularly cool, with muzzle/tail/ears/breasts all custom made out of Sculpey. (All three use Barbies as bases)
Unknown Artists' Black Cat Man and Cat Super Dollfie Appears to be photos from a doll show. I can't read the page (Japanese) so I cant say who they belong to. Found the page while looking for more photos of the Baron dolls.
Mau by Ashbet and Catlindevi A resin head created to fit Super Dollfie-sized bodies. The ears attach by way of pegs to minimize the holes in wigs. The heads were produced in a limited quantity.
Nixie by Lithe-Fider Not a cat but too impressive to leave off the list. A 19 inch kitsune (fox) BJD made from Super Sculpey and then airbrushed.
Yosuke by SatorareYosuke is made from an Obitsu body that's been given a full paint job.
Honorable Mensions:
Mystikats by Playhut Girls with cat ears. Why do they make the list? Well, with a bit of customizing, I think you could make one of these girls into more of an anthro-cat. The ears are detachable but they are plastic and fit into the head rather than being fabric and attached to a hair band so I consider them more "a part of the doll" then a costume.
Lounge Kitties (Barbie) by Mattel A cat costume rather than actually being a cat, so it doesn't make the main list.

It looks so much better in a photo than it did in person. Basically, I followed the Volks tutorial because I liked the shape but the eyes seemed too big and too much like someone else's work. So, after all the trouble I took trying to get them lined up, I wiped the face. I'll try something else later.
Wow. Somehow an entire section of this entry was just deleted. I have no idea how.
Short version: Midnight Dance Bratz. Disapointed that they aren't more EGL. Yasmin looks like Jade, Meygan looks like Roxxi and Fianna looks like Cloe. That's lame. Fianna: No. Meygan: Probably not. Good clothing, don't like the open mouth and light green eyes Yasmin: Possibly. Eyes too wide, but maybe I can deal. Beautifully colored hair. Ugly clothing.
Saw all 4 Babyz, Twiins set and the Big Babyz in TRU. Not tempted by any of them.

I rooted a head with pigtails and bangs in Plum Crazy. Don't be fooled by the photo above, it's a red purple not a blue purple. It turned out really well so I figured I'd pull the hair I'd partially rooted out of the midi head and redo it now that I have more practice and a better idea of what I'm doing. The midi body was for a Miwako Sakurada (Paradise Kiss) doll. That's why I was going nuts looking for just the right shade of pink hair. When I took the hair out, it left sizable holes. I'm hoping they will close up a bit if I leave it alone. If they rip, I will have to wait untill next year for my Miwako doll. It pisses me off. If I'd just left it alone untill now, I wouldn't be having this problem. Miwako will be part of a set. I have an N body for Arashi (no hair, the color came and I didn't think it was suitable in person) and the Mini A whose head was AWOL is for Arisu (There will be an "Alice" later) which I have hair for. I also plan on an Isabella later. Doing a dress swap with Alcy. Working a Boyz sized EGL outfit. I need to make and attach the sleeves, finish the headpiece, attach snaps and finish fitting the bodice. It's on it's way to completion!

Thrift Store and Flea Market
MWHAHA! So, on Friday I paid the thrift store a visit and came away with an Enchanted Island Lady Lovely Locks and a Moon Dreamers Crystal Starr for $.50. Crystal is nude but has really nice curls. EILLL wears her swimsuit but has a chips taken out of the hard plastic body, a weird neck, a spot on her right knee and I curled her hair to cover up the fact that she's balding something fierce. Still, half a dollar! Then, over the weekend, I went to a big flea market. In one bag, for $2, was a Lady Lovely Locks and an Enchanted Island Maiden Goldenwaves. They both appear to be complete >3 Yum yum! I had LLL coloring books and I watched the cartoons but I never actually had any of the dolls growing up. I clued in after seeing some photos that those weird flower rings on the dresses are meant for pixietails to hang-ix on to. I told Mum about it and she said "I know. I remember the ads." I am so proud. XD In another, $1, there was a curved hands Blueberry Muffin and a Sweet Sleeper Strawberry Shortcake. BBM has her dress, shoes and tights. Man SS SSC is a freaky girl! XD The eyes are sleep eyes but they don't have any whites :O I thought I'd ruined her when I cleaned her because the eyes stopped working. It was fine after it dried though. She came with her night gown and tights (they have a hole and are kinda faded. I'll fix them later) For $1 each, I also got a 14.5 inch (HUGE!) doll made by Laiko International (anyone know anything about her) and a nude old-style Madeline doll. Madeline has a SCAR on her belly from an apendix removal :D C'mon, how many non-OOAK FEMALE dolls have you seen lately that had scars? Danm she has a beautiful hair color. Very similar to SSC's, actually. If am ever forced to go a naturally occuring color, I think I'll have to haul her along to the drug store and try to match it. It really impresses me what excellent condition the dolls are in. The photos are post cleaning and detangling but nobody was missing a limb or majorly damaged. And the total was only $5 :D
As well as the table where I got these beauties, there was also an offical vintage toy table. The only real difference was only that you paid more for the benifet of not having to sift through bags of crap. They had a bunch of Maxie dolls but I wasn't keen to pay $5 for one after the great deals I'd just gotten. There was a Video (Jem) there but I already have one, plus she was kind of loose in the joints. If it had been Stormer or Synergy (even with faded spots) though, it would have been sold XD

Is it better to tell everyone what's up your sleeve custom doll-wise and avoid someone else comming out with it faster and being labeled a copy cat or keep it a surprise?

Shining, gleaming, streaming, flaxen, waxen
My Restore Doll hair came today.
Ever since, I guess a week ago, I have been LEAPING to the mailbox whenever I hear something being put in it. Today when I checked the mailbox there was nothing but an hour or two later, I went to check again (just in case) and the packet was wedged between the inner and outer door.
Something I think would be a good idea would be a site showing non-official photos of different doll hair colors in different lights. I've been doing google searches to find out what colors look like under different circumstances but most doll customizing sites don't seem to list brand or shade names :(
Baby Sea Shimmer's Color Matching Guide has some good comparison pictures for Restore Doll colors vs. original My Little Ponies. The more natural colors PROBABLY won't be showing up there though XD;
The Mini head turned up! Hooray! ^__^ Gotta double check and make sure nothing ELSE is missing then I can throw out my trash! ^^;

Made a trip to a thrift store yesterday and made some finds! A member if the Power Team, the firefighter I think. I'm not keen on the uber muscular bodied action figures/dolls but two things drew me to him. First, his articulation. He has 16 points of articulation! WOO! And he has nipples. I find that surprising XD His head is harder vinyl so after cleaning him, I took advantage of that and gave him a couple rings in each ear. He fits into the Ken shorts and sandals I had, I'm hoping he'd fit into the suit pattern I have. Please note in the photo he stands by himself :D Some would probably have walked past this, thinking it was a generic bath toy rather than an artifact of the 80's. But not I! OHOHOHO! Meet Sunnypeek! One of the Hide n' Peeks who were some how related to Lady Lovely Locks. 25 cents! X3 Her pink-streaked purple hair trails behind her. It was in a tangled pony tail atop her head when I bought her but the tangles were loose so they came out easily. I also saw a Hot Looks doll I kinda of wanted. From the page, I'd say she was Chelsea. The thing is, she was also 19" tall...where would I have put her? So I put her down and hoped who ever bought her would be someone who'd really enjoy her. The local branch is mostly late 80's/early 90's-today stuff but this one that's a bit farther, dolls from as far back as the 60's are turning up! I have to visit more often, it seems like a real goldmine. Vinyl goldmine, you stroke me like the rain.... My brother had Jammie Pies when he was little. I'm not sure if they were the actual company-given names but the sailor was "Midi" and his seal was "Squeek". There was also a smaller doll about the size of Squeek dressed in red that he had. I'd seen the clown in stores and wanted one, though I didn't think of her as a clown. I thought she looked like a strawberry XD
